Descripció:

Job description: ICFO-The Institute of Photonic Sciences in a joint project with Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau (HSCSP) invites applications for a neurologist interested in ischemic stroke and transcranial Doppler ultrasound (TCD). The joint project is part of our research program in developing novel new neuro-monitoring tools for theranostic management of ischemic stroke and other neurological diseases. Training opportunities in medical optics, TCD, medical device development, including a Ph.D. project, are integral part of the collaboration. The neurologist will be responsible for: - Recruiting and supervising patients for protocols involving the use of optical neuro-monitors in patients. - Collecting, anonymizing and organizing subject medical records. - Performing TCD and optical measurements. - Developing and drafting new protocols. - Participating in data-analysis, presentations in congresses (if desired) and write-up in peer-reviewed journals (if desired). The candidate will act as an expert to provide the link between the ICFO Medical Optics group and the clinical group on Cerebrovascular Diseases at HSCSP. The candidate will be responsible for research activities, will be in charge of follow-up reports that may be required, in collaboration and agreement with the group leader, and may apply for grants. ICFO- Medical Optics Group: ICFO Medical Optics group was founded by Prof Turgut Durduran (ICREA @ ICFO) in 2009 to develop novel, new technologies based on diffuse optics for non-invasive monitoring of hemodynamics in tissues. Of particular interest to the group is the monitoring of cerebral blood flow (CBF) and oxygen metabolism (CMRO2). The group collaborates with about a dozen hospitals in Barcelona metropolitan area, around Europe and in USA. The group leads and participates in several multi-national European projects (LUCA, BabyLux, OILTEBIA, BitMap), as well as MINECO, ISCIII, National Institutes of Health (NIH) projects. It prides itself in end-user driven technology development and demonstration in pre-clinical and clinical research. Technology transfer is also a priority area with a successful spin-off company (HemoPhotonics SL) and several newer endeavours being incubated. It has been collaborating with HSCSP since 2009 on several projects funded by ISCIII, MINECO, Fundacio Cellex Barcelona, Obra Social La Caixa and the European Commission. Two groups have demonstrated the benefits of these technologies in assessing risk in high-risk populations (carotid stenosis, sleep apnea), in real-time monitoring of the effects of thrombolysis in acute stroke, in predictive analysis of cerebrovascular reactivity in acute ischemic stroke and in other areas. Currently, different on-going projects are recruiting and plans are being made for future multi-center clinical trials. For further information about the group and ICFO, please see http://www.icfo.eu HSCSP - Cerebrovascular Diseases Group: Cerebrovascular diseases research group at HSCSP focuses on different aspects related to ischemic stroke and other cerebrovascular diseases. Of particular interest are the monitoring of the effects of therapies such as thrombolysis in acute ischemic stroke, the development of new management strategies based on personalized information from novel new neuro-monitors and the assessment of risks in high-risk populations. The group collaborates on numerous local and international projects. HSCSP encourages interdisciplinary collaboration in medicine as well as in technology development and provides opportunities and resources to enhance these interactions. Qualifications and professional experience: * It is mandatory for the candidates to hold a MD degree in Neurology. * Secondary degrees in medical research (biostatistics, etc) are optional and are considered positive. * Demonstrated experience in TCD and/or a strong desire for training * Demonstrated experience in clinical procedures, good clinical practices and regulations. * Excellent verbal skills in Spanish, Catalan (optional) and good English verbal and written skills. * Demonstrated interest in research project design, analysis and writing. Personal skills * Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. * Ability to interact with academic researchers with non-medical expertise (physics, engineering) and cooperation in inter-disciplinary environments. * Demonstrated interest in participating in research project design, analysis and writing * Interest in joining a non-profit, interdisciplinary, translational research project. * Strong oral and written communication skills. Benefits * Full-time position with standard social security benefits. * Level of appointment and starting salary will be in accordance with qualifications and experience. * Training opportunities in medical optics, TCD, medical device development including a Ph.D. project are integral part of the collaboration. Reporting The neurologist will report to Prof Turgut Durduran (Group Leader, ICREA Professor at ICFO, Medical Optics) and Dr Joan Martí Fàbregas (Group Leader, Cerebrovascular Diseases, HSCSP). To apply To apply, please e-mail the address below the following: 1) Cover letter describing research interests and relevant background; 2) CV; 3) The names and contact information of three individuals who could provide reference letters.
